The famous Canhugas Nature Park in Hernani, Eastern Samar, is now easier to reach thanks to a concreted road leading from the national highway.

It is a project of the Department of Public Works and Highways Eastern Samar District Engineering Office (DPWH ESDEO) under the Convergence and Special Support Program that began in 2019 and was completed in 2021.

The road leading to Canhugas is 1.898 kilometers long, with a standard width of a national road and a total cost of Php 27.35 million.

Cleopatra Bantang, operation manager of Canhugas Nature Park, stated that before the project's completion, tourists' access to tourism sites was difficult due to rocky and muddy roads, particularly on rainy days.

“Han waray pa kasemento, makuri talaga an pagkanhi. Reklamo talaga han mga guest kay an ira mga sasakyan nagkakaruruba lalo na an mga gulong [With the absence of the road, coming here (Canhugas) is very challenging for our tourists. They always complain about the bumpy and muddy road that caused damage to their cars particularly the tire],” said Bantang.

She also revealed that, despite Canhugas' beauty, many visitors were discouraged from visiting because there was no parking space near the tourist sites, in addition to the inconvenience of travel. Some of the visitors parked their cars along the national highway.

“Pero yana nga okay na an kalsada, waray na problema, nadiretso na hira nganhe. Ada na gud hira mismo napark hit yungod hit resort [Now that the road is okay, they come here conveniently. They can now park their vehicles safely near the resort],” added by Bantang.

She expressed gratitude to the national government for assisting them in enhancing their tourism destination through the construction of the local road.

“Gidakui nga salamat talaga kay kon munisipyo la, dire man kaya han kwarta an funding, kinahanglan manla gihap hin national government na pundo [Thank you very much, because without the help of the national government, the project will not be realized because of the limited fund of the LGU],” disclosed Bantang.

Canhugas Nature Park is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Eastern Samar, thanks to its massive waves crashing onto large rock formations. The location also provides a fantastic setting and a beautiful backdrop for a photo shoot, which will undoubtedly garner more likes when posted on social media. —Tacloban News Update (Source: DPWH-8)
