DOH confirms local transmission of Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1

The Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed the local transmission of Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1 in the country.

TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed that the Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1 is being transmitted locally throughout the country, according to DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.

There are currently 17 people in the country who have tested positive for BA.2.12.1. Sixteen are local cases, an additional two cases came from Western Visayas, and one case involved a returning overseas Filipino from the United States of America.

During the online forum for the media, Vergeire emphasizes that now, more than ever, the general public should practice discipline in following minimum health protocols. 

The DOH Undersecretary strongly encourages those who have not yet received vaccinations. She also emphasized the significance of receiving booster shots to maintain one's immunity to the fatal virus. —Tacloban News Update
