Barangay official in Alangalang, Leyte nabbed over shabu




TACLOBAN CITY — A barangay official was arrested by authorities in a buy-bust operation in Alangalang, Leyte on Thursday, April 22.

PMaj. Arturo Salvacion, Chief of Police of Alangalang Municipal Station, identified the suspect as Mark Vergara, 32 years old, single, a barangay councilor of Brgy. Pepita in Alagalang, Leyte, and listed as a high-value individual (HVI).


The drug buy-bust operation was conducted by a joint operation by the Leyte Police Provincial Office PDEU team, Alangalang MPS and PDEA-8, led by Kananga chief of Police PMaj Ariel J. Salarda, PMaj. Arturo Salvacion and PCol. Rodelio Samson, respectively.


The operatives arrested Vergara at around 11:20 am at Brgy. Pepita, Alangalang. He yielded some sachet of suspected shabu worth P2,500 and P500 marked money.

Vergara is just one of the drug personalities that has been caught this week. April 21, a retired cop was also arrested for involvement in illegal drugs. 


The police recovered some sachets of shabu from Vergara and P500 marked money.

Charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against the barangay official. —Tacloban News Update (LLPO PR)
