Woman dies after motor vehicle accident due to stray dog

TACLOBAN CITY –  A woman died after a road accident involving a stray dog in Barangay Larrazabal, Naval, Biliran.  

The victim was identified as Genelyn Barrina Dedal, 41, a resident of Barangay P. I. Garcia, Naval, Biliran. She was together with her husband when the accident happened.

According to PMaj. Michael John Astorga, of the Naval Police Station,  the victim together with her husband was on their way home when suddenly a stray dog crossed the road. Their motorcycle, which was driven by her husband, hit the dog and causing them to be thrown out to the cemented road.


The victim sustained severe head injuries and immediately taken to the hospital but still lost her life.

According to Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), twelve million stray cats and dogs roamed the nation in 2019 and some of them caused vehicular accidents. Police are calling on dog owners to become responsible pet owners and not to let them roam the streets.


Meanwhile, netizens expressed their condolences but pointed out that motorists should always wear helmets to protect the head from severe traumas which could lead to death.

The World Health Organization (WHO) advised that wearing a motorcycle helmet helps reduce the risk of death by 40 percent and severe injury by 70 percent.  Tacloban News Update
