NEWS — Are you single this Valentine’s Day? Don't worry you're not alone. According to Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), there are more than 34.8 million singles in the Philippines recorded as of 2015.

The definition of "single" according to the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN), is people who have never been married to anyone.

PSA in February 2020, reiterated a report that there are 34.8 million unmarried individuals since 2015.
The report says: There were 34.8 million single persons in the Philippines or 44 percent of the total population 10 years old and above.

Said data is higher by 3.5 million compared with their 2010 report of 31.3 million single individuals. PSA collects data on marital status for persons 10 years old and above every 10 years.

Meanwhile, the total single population for men accounted for 54.1 percent, resulting in a sex ratio of 118 males for every 100 females.

"The sex ratio increased to 131 males for every 100 females for singles aged 20 years and over.   Discounting those with ages 10 to 19 years old, 56.7 percent was male while 43.3 percent was female." the report added

Among the 17 administrative regions in the Philippines, Region VIII (Eastern Visayas) had the highest sex ratio among single persons at 127.8, followed by Region XIII (Caraga) and MIMAROPA Region with sex ratios of 127.7 and 127.1, respectively.

The region with the lowest sex ratio among single persons was the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) at 103.

“Single ka ba ngayong Valentine’s Day? Hindi ka nag-iisa, (Are you single this Valentines, you are not alone.)”  PSA mockingly posted on their Facebook page on Thursday. iTacloban (Source: Philippine Statistics Authority)
