TACLOBAN CITY -- Five close contacts of Mayor Romualdez tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) after he contracted the virus on Dec. 10.

Before this, Mayor Romualdez remained isolated after being positive for the coronavirus disease.

According to Dra. Gloria Fabrigas, head of the Tacloban City Health Office, said 18 close contacts of the mayor have been swab test in which five results turned positive.

“I do not see the mayor as the index case, as his executive assistants and other household helpers have tested negative,” Fabrigas said in a report.

Four of them are asymptomatic while the other one has several symptoms of COVID-19.

Contact tracing is still undergoing to ensure that all those who meet the mayor can be identified.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Romualdez said he was grateful to everyone who sent him messages of concerns and prayed for his good health.

"Your prayers and get well wishes have given me the strength to become better faster. I have asked my nurse, garbed in full PPE (personal protective equipment), to take my picture, for all of you to see that I am up and about," Romualdez said. iTacloban
