TACLOBAN CITY — A 52-year-old barangay tanod committed suicide in front of his nephew and friends after allegedly being spurned by his love interest on Thursday night, September 2, in Barangay Manlawaan, Tabango, Leyte.
According to a report from Tempo, The victim was identified as Hilario Salino, 52-year-old, a barangay tanod, and a resident of the said town.
Tabango Municipal Police Station (MPS) chief Police Major Ronald Espina told the news organization that the victim died on the spot.
Based on the statement of the victim's nephew and friends, they were drinking coconut water when the victim passed by with sadness on his face. They were surprised when Salino suddenly took his .45 caliber gun and then shot himself.
Salino was holding a picture of the woman he was courting before the incident happened.
